IRATA Level 2 is the advanced operator qualification for technicians wanting to progress in the industry.

To upgrade from IRATA Level 1 to Level 2, you need:

– at least 1 year certified at IRATA Level 1 (NB check your expiry date – must be after your proposed date of assessment to Level 2)

– a minimum of 1000 hours logged at Level 1, signed off by your L3 supervisor

– a good level of competence at Level 1 – if in doubt get in touch for some warm-up refresher training.

On the course you will learn:

– Advanced rigging such as wide ‘y’ hangs, tensioned lines and pull-throughs

– Basic hauling systems for retrieving a casualty

– Rescues from ascent mode, and from aid climbs

– Rescues through most common manouevres – rope to rope transfers, deviations and rebelays

– Theory topics include calculating safe working loads, rigging angles, and hauling ratios

The course is a week long: four days training Mon – Thurs and one day assessment on Friday. All equipment is provided, all you need to bring is yourself and a decent level of fitness.

Q: Do i still need a certain amout of hours signed to revalidate my level2

A: Hi Lee,thank you for your enquiry. You do not need to have accrued any hours at level 2 to enable you to revalidate. We are offering the Level 2 revalidation course every week and currenlty have availability on each week going forwards. Q: I obtained my level 3 in 2014. I did not pass the refresh in 2017, but I have always worked on ropes or as a trainer (french cqp). would it be possible for me to register for a level 2 training without going back to level 1? if possible, what dates could you suggest before the end of 2023? A: Hi, thank you for your enquiry. Technicians who have allowed their IRATA Level 3 certification to expire by more than 24 months can recertify at level 2. You need to book a Level 2 revalidation course. We deliver these courses every week Mon - Fri and currenlty have availability on each week going forwards. We may close for one or two weeks over the Christmas period. You are welcome to book using our website or call us on 01142 737398.
Q: Good morning. I’m looking to book my level 2 course, and was wondering how far in advance you have to book as I’m working in Sweden over the summer period. Is it possible To book on last minute or would it be better to book now for maybe autumn/winter time? Many thanks Abi 😊

A: Hi, thank you for your enquiry. We run IRATA Level 2 courses every week. We can become fully booked 1-2 weeks in advance. You are very welcome to make a booking now or contact us closer to the time. Your course booking can be re-scheduled should your plans change. All we ask is that you give as much notice as possible.
